Ginger Gold
Place of Origin: Nelson County, VA
Year: 1980
Parentage: Seedling of ‘Golden Delicious’
Uses: Eating, Baking
History at Three Springs: Grown regularly since the 1980's
Planted by Clyde and Ginger Harvey, the variety first fruited in 1984. While it shares a resemblance to it's parent variety, Golden Delicious, the flavor is considerably more bright. An early variety, Ginger Gold has a texture that's superior to many other early-ripening cultivars. For us at Three Springs, this is when you can start making apple pies again, as other early apples aren't suitable. It remains the favorite apple of Rachel Wenk.
