History at Three Springs: Planted for Ploughman Cider in 2014
Easily the most precocious apple variety we've ever encountered - setting fruit the same year it was planted on semi-dwarfing rootstock. This apple is both high sugar AND high acid and can be turned into nearly anything and work exceedingly well in whatever it is asked to do. It provides a unique "punchy" acidity to alocholic cider. They're a fun, small-fruited snack for fresh eating. They produce an excellent jelly as well. They bear heavy every year and are quite resistant to insects and diseases, though, to be fair, tend to be attractive for deer. One of the most impressive orchard trees I've ever encountered - we love Wickson.
